How to measure your body

Follow these quick steps to take accurate measurements at home. In Norway we use centimetres; inches are fine if you prefer—just be consistent.

Before you start

  • Use a soft measuring tape. Measure over light underwear or close-fitting clothing.
  • Keep the tape level and parallel to the floor where required.
  • Stand naturally—don’t suck in or flex. Ask a friend for best accuracy.

Height

  1. Stand barefoot against a wall, heels together.

  2. Look straight ahead and keep your shoulders relaxed.

  3. Mark the highest point of your head on the wall and measure from the floor to the mark.

Bust / Chest

  1. Wrap a soft tape around the fullest part of your chest/bust.

  2. Keep the tape level across your shoulder blades and parallel to the floor.

  3. Relax your arms and breathe normally—don’t hold your breath.

Tip: For sports bras, also measure underbust snugly and add 1–2 cm ease.

Natural Waist

  1. Find the narrowest point above your belly button and below your rib cage.

  2. Keep the tape horizontal and snug, but not tight.

Hips

  1. Stand with feet together.

  2. Measure around the fullest part of the seat and hips.

  3. Keep the tape parallel to the floor.

Inseam

  1. Stand barefoot. Ask a friend for best accuracy.

  2. Measure from the top of the inner thigh (crotch) down to the floor.

Tip: If measuring on trousers that fit well: lay flat and measure inner seam from crotch to hem.

Sleeve Length

  1. With arm slightly bent, place one end of the tape at shoulder tip.

  2. Run the tape along the outside of the arm to the wrist bone.

Shoulder Width

  1. Measure straight across the back from shoulder tip to shoulder tip.

  2. Keep the tape flat and level.

Neck

  1. Wrap the tape around the base of the neck, where a collar would sit.

  2. Insert one finger under the tape for comfort allowance (≈1–2 cm).

Hand (Gloves)

  1. Measure around your dominant hand at the knuckles (excluding thumb).

  2. Keep the tape snug without squeezing.
